DeLand is very welcoming. They understand like it's a college town. So they're used to seeing a lot of different kinds of students. I'm from Orlando. So like I'm used to like the metropolitan area. Living in a smaller community, while going to into college, makes it a lot easier to kind of focus on college. There's things to do — lots of mom-and-pop shops, lots of local restaurants, and being able to walk down the street and you know, go to places like the boulevard or half wall, and I'm like, Hey, Josh, what's up like, that's a pretty cool feeling to know that the community knows you, because it just makes you feel that much safer to be here.
Some of the most scenic places to go off campus would be like Blue Springs, where you can go and see the manatees swimming around, as well as DeLeon Springs and eat some pancakes at the Old Spanish Mill. And Skydive DeLand is a really cool place. I've been skydiving before and I think that everybody should try it once before they graduate. So in places that are off campus that I really enjoy the beach, of course, being a Marine Biology major as well as universal. I like to go on the rollercoasters and ride all that fun stuff, as well as downtown Orlando, and, of course, Disney. The beach is about 20 minutes away, and Orlando, Universal, Disney are all about an hour away.
Being born and raised in DeLand, my whole family's from here. I wouldn't talk so highly about it if I didn't love it, and didn't want to come here. And DeLand is a very tight-knit community that I really enjoy, and I really proud to be part of.
